But would the Heed go with your DAC, you may need to buy the Heed DAC as well?

That remains to be seen as do any of the combinations.  If it doesn't play well with it it won't be purchased.

So you are trying to match the cd transport with your DAC?

No, he's spending 1500 quid so he can match it with his underpants! Stupid question...

There is of course, the rationale that not everyone wants a cheap source player.  If you're not bothered with it, then no issues, but some consumers will want something different.  It's important to be able to recognise that and not keep pitching the "you don't need a fancy CD player, you can get a cheap DVD player from Sainsbury's!*" line.

Get the oppo blueray player 105EU  around 900 pounds.. I just got one. In a word stunning!! For some reason it sounds better though my M-dac than my rega dac.

Thank you for your constructive comments.  You are right, I do not want a DVD player or one of those blue things.  I want a top quality CD transport for playing CDs.  Suggesting I replace the CD 8 SE with a £100 multiplayer is quite simply ridiculous and I doubt it's Hi Fi either.

Maybe stupid to you but to me it makes more sense to match both together, the Heed transport and DAC maybe a much better than anything and an Arcam rDAC .

First off, Lhc, get your own post if you want to answer for the OP.

Second, stop being a tw*t and offending as many people as possible (not just this posting either) - its not nice and tedious for everyone to read through your endless bickering.

Thirdly, and back to the OP...

the reason i ask why you want a CDT, is because if you want the best sound from CD's you can find that a CD player with its own DAC such as the Plinius will sound better than almost any CDT and DAC solution under £5k including the top flight Cyrus solution IMO. David's solution of CDT plus Power supply is sound, I just think you can get better sound from a complete CD player IMO if you buy second hand.

You can pick up the Blu on fleebay right now as its up for sale I think under £2k possibly subject to an offer price too, but no point getting this unless your matching the DAC as it wastes its potential.

I am yet to hear any streaming solution beats the best CD solutions without going very high in resolution, and think a CDT is a good idea for sound quality, i just think second hand CD players are best value given they are out of fashion, and The Plinius CD101 often goes second hand around £1,500. The Plinius used as a CDT is great into a QBD76, just pipped for naturalness in vocals and guitars using the PLinius DAC inside the CD player, but fast music plays best through the QBD dac.

Can WHF delete the post where I'm assuming Lhc is a tw*t as I don't know he is one, but he is behaving like one.

I always thought the Musical Fidelity M1 CDT & M1 DAC, looked good.

Prob would have got one, but my CD listening is well under 1%.

I agree that all in one CD players can be better Transport -> DAC.. I don't know what streaming solutions you've heard but assuming you haven't heard Naim or Linn? I wasn't a believer until I heard one (i'd previously been running mac through Pre Xpd QX), they sound better than some CD players 2/3 times the price.. Plus they (most) have digital inputs so can be used as a DAC as well and could add CD-T as well.. Sorry this is off topic but I couldn't recommend enough trying a streamer

You could've edited your own post.  Not much point though, now I've quoted this one.

You are not very consistent in your arguements.  A couple of pages back you were telling me all CDT were the same right down to £100 models and now you suggest I would need to match CDT to DAC.

Don't worry about it, it's the same difference.

Yes, that wasn't what I was saying, I was saying it was a stupid question because it's obvious that he's trying to match the CD transport and DAC, so the question doesn't need asking.

I still hold my view tha the dvd would be the way to go but you insist on spending £s on cd transport and DAC then you may as well get the best,  I don't see the point of matching a cd to  a dac and then changing the dac later why not get the best combination.

Well I was saying that in my question I don't think it is the best way to do it, best to combine the 2, do you think buying a £1,500 cd transport to match a £300 dac is the best way to choose a cd transport.

I tried, hence it duplicated which has never happened before - editing on forums is not reliable
