Can't hear a thing
My system is complete rubbish. The bass non-existent, the treble is splashy and the midrange is just about legible. Quite frankly, I might as well be listening to small transistor radio.
To be honest, and is a little more complicated, I've had this flu virus for the past 6 days and its really screwed up my hearing. Mrs. P last night asked what we were having for dinner, and I replied: "Seven thirty".
It's true though I'm having real trouble picking out the bass notes on the average track. Although my hearing is good, this virus is playing havoc with the old ENT dept.
Anyone else had similar problems in the past with virus vs hearing?
I know fluctuating moods can influence what you hear, but never had it this extreme.
Roll on Sunday - hopefully I'll get my hi-fi back.
If/when I get a head cold I cant listen to music.
It's painful as bass is dull and thumpy and the top end brittle and harsh.
Lots of steam, menthol sources (i.e. crystals, strong mints etc...) and hot toddies and you'll soon be right!
Oh; hammer Vit C as well. I cane about 10kmg a day when I'm coming down with something...
I had something similar, but it was caused by a flight, which triggered my Eustachian Tubes to block. The effect was similar to having water trapped in your ears....not pleasant. The Doc gave me little white pills to unblock it....but it took take a while.
On the bright side you at least will not hear Mrs P say no if you want to buy some more Hi Fi!
Hope it gets better soon.
Get some Actives PP - they're so wonderful they sound perfect even when the virus strikes !!
Sounds like it's caused an ear infection (bacterial, so you'll need antibiotics), I had this a few years ago, got so bad I couldn't hear the phone on my desk ringing but that didn't matter as I couldn't hear anybody talking to me anyway.
Eventually it got so bad one of my eardrums ruptured which is just about the most painful thing I've ever experienced, so I wouldn't recommend it. I'd say it was more painful than childbirth, if one gave birth through one's ears obviously...
If one were a mediaeval weasel...

Once had an ineer ear infection of the eustachian tubes. Agony like I've never known and hopefully never will again. They became inflamed and the docto the following morning (I'd been up all night) said "apparently it's second only to childbirth". She may have had a point...one week of antibiotics and some strong painkillers followed!

I dont need a virus for that darling

Now that's what makes this forum unique.....
My hearing has been affected for about a month now - like having ear muffs on. Whole head seems to be full of gunge. Got a virus infection from a grandson! I am rather hoping that it will just go away by itself, but maybe I'll go to the doctor if it is still bothering me in a couple of weeks.
Andrew
I'll take a wild stab in the dark that he Googled 'giving birth through ear' or something similar :)
air pressure difference between the outer and inner ear is everything, as anyone who has flown will tell you (I include steep road hills in this too).
A cold virus fills the eustachian tube up nicely, so not the right time for critical listening
Seems to be improving. Certainly a scary couple of days - not point having a decent set-up if the old lugs can't make the most of them.

I had the same problem after an ear infection once bass would reverb in my ears and treble was non existent! I went to the doctors and they syringed my ears and what can only be described as 2 barrels of wax came out of each ear it was disgusting. Must of been like this for some years as when i got home and put some music on the treble was so bright i had to turn it down.
