All these discussions about cables are so pointless.
-Buy expensive cables if you think they will make a difference.
-Use cheap cables if you think more expensive cables will not make a difference.
Life can be so simple
Would that it was so simple.
The problem as I see it is, for example, someone comes onto the forum asking for system buying advice and gets advised to allow around 10% for cables...
This advice, whilst given in faith, is utter nonsense, and will affect the quality of system that the person can get...
If people who conned themselves into believing spending more money on cables just kept to themselves, it would be fine, but no, they give advice and affect other people's decisions and cause other people to waste money where it makes little to no difference to the end quality.
Cables should be fit for purpose. That's it. A £20 interconnect cable from Amazon sounds identical to a £2000 interconnect cable from FooRUs.com, providing they are both built to the right specification.
A 2.5mm OFC speaker cable from Maplin will sound identical to a 2.5mm OFC cable from HiFiAudiophileCables.com costing 10x as much to add a multi-coloured fabric sleeve and banana plugs.
A kettle lead will sound identical to a RussRumbledBytheAdAuthority.com power lead.
Inteference can be countered by some cheap Ferrite cores if it's an issue.
“Out beyond ideas of wrong and right, there is a field.
I'll meet you there."
Well it is that simple really. Let people buy what they want............if some people buy expensive cables and are happy with it..........what's the problem ?
In the end you decide if you're going to buy expensive cables or not. No one is forcing you to use expensive cables.
No one is forcing you to use expensive cables.
No, but people are being misled when asking for advice. So, no, it isn't that simple.
andyjm thanks for your detailed reply - i'm no technician so such a reply is valued.
but the reality is i can clearly hear a difference when swapping mains cables ( i have tried several )
and the thicker cable i currently use is stated to have a lower resistance which is claimed to help the amp draw the power it needs to create, as i have found, deeper bass etc
Full circle again then. Like the wind and sun which brings.oir weather I guess.

lads, thanks for all the replies - all valued ! but
the original question was basically if you have tried more expensive cables and not detected any improvement or even a difference,
just list the cables you have tried, (including their cost) and the results you have experienced good all bad - hence your sceptisicm !
if you have not tried more expensive cables because you already know they "dont work" please dont reply !
some people have listed what they have tried plus their results which is all i requested !
Its pretty overcast here.

Grey overcast but slowly brightening here in west London.
However the day brightened considerably a few minutes ago with a group (flock?) of eight green parakeets cavorting around just outside my second floor window, the balcony doors were wide open and their noise attracted my attention.
Oh dear, Dave, we really can't be having that.
Your picture is of a Green Parakeet (a Central American bird). The ones outside your window are Rose-ringed Parakeets (origin: Africa and India).
What classical music are you listening to?
In my first proper system, I was pursuaded to spend £50 on 50cm for interconnects, and to buy minor upgrade quality QED cables for the speakers.
This was back in 2000.
Around 5 years ago I bought some NVA LS3 speaker cable, which I'd heard great things about. And it was a "return if unsatisfied" type deal.
Even then I had started having doubts, but I tested those against my VanDamme cables and some borrowed cables from the local Hifi Shop.
And while I didn't think there was "much" in it, I noticed differences between each cable and concluded the NVA were the best, and kept them...
Only later did I decide to test this blind.
I went through all my speaker cables, from noname 2.5mm OFC to the NVA, and in none of the tests could I say which cable was connected.
I did the same for all my interconnects, from "free" skinny black ones, to £100/m cable. They were all, to a cable (about 6 pairs) identical, or at least I couldn't tell any difference.
So now, I buy the cheapest well made cables I can, if needed.
As for digital cables. It is impossible for them to differ. Any review or opinion otherwise, is wrong, misleading or plain lying. Digital cables will work, or not. And the point at which they stop working is obvious, not reduced bass or colour.
I did the same tests with codecs too, after I had started to buy 24 bit 96 KHz downloads...
I downsampled the HD tracks in Audacity, to CD quality.
Then ABXd the original and the downsampled version. I even included high bitrate MP3 conversions...
All sound exactly the same. Conclusion, HD audio is a waste of time. Often it does indeed sound better than the CD recording, I've heard that too, but when the HD version is reduced to CD quality, it also sounds better than the CD recording...SO the HD version was mastered TO SOUND BETTER. Conspiracy to sell yet another version? You decide, but if they would concentrate on mastering quality of CDs then there would be no need for HD music.
What else would we post about? The weather?
Not great at the moment is it? Mind you, just came back from honeymoon in Europe and in Rome and it tipped it down on Monday. So.
Congratulations Prof. All the best to you both.
Thanks very much!
I'm sorry, my brain failed to register the word honeymoon Many congratulations to you both

I had thought you very rude, but you're now forgiven
Good I hope you threw a coin or two in the trevi fountain
fr0g thanks for your reply - this is what i'm after !
As for digital cables. It is impossible for them to differ.
I agree. The reason I'm tired of these discussions is because I said the exact same thing about digital cables on a dutch forum and everybody said that I was dead wrong.
It's like talking about if god exists or not. Discussion with no end
