Bass Response

Does bass response improve after speakers have been run for a while.
Reason I ask is that I have today hooked up my new MA Silver 6 speakers and the bass does not seem to go as far down as it did with my old RX6 speakers.

RE: Bass Response

You may find that the newer speakers are more in control of their bass frequencies. And yes, they will settle after some running in, and some speakers can free up and sound a little lower.

Your new speakers may need to be positioned slightly differently too (i.e. closer-to or further-away from the wall).

RE: Bass Response

A cautious and very dealership-like response there from David.

Can I take it you auditioned these before purchase? If so did the ones you heard have the sort of bass response you where expecting?

Some speakers may require slight repositioning but even when 'freed-up' are unlikely to produce a lot more bass.

The new bass and midrange drivers in these speakers 'should' produce a more realistic response but whether or not it is to your liking only you can say.

Loads of second hand expensive kit!

RE: Bass Response

The new speakers are in exactly the same place as the RX6s.
They have only been running for approx 3 hours. I do like the sound of them but as I said the bass does not seem to go as low and I also notice that the air coming out of the back ports seems less on the same music hence my question does bass change after running in.

If your speakers are brand new i would definitely reserve judgement until you have allowed them to run in. Every speaker is different but my Dalis definitely sounded better after a week of listening (about 20 hours listening time).

If your not hearing the type of bass you want & you still got the option of return I will advice you return them.. From what you are describing the speakers may not be to your tatse. Even when the speakers do settle dwn the difference would not be much. You could move them closer to the wall, cause some speakers perform better that way.

Are the ports on the new silver 6 the same diameter and depth as the ports on the Rx6?  If not then they will have different tuning frequencies,  and will excite your listening room modes differently.

The drive units suspension will ease up with use so reduce its resonance frequency by a few hz's but i doubt you will hear that to be honest.

RE: Bass Response

Monitor audio recommends a higher amplifier power rating than the previous RX6 model and they are a different resistance, maybe this has something to do with it. Is your amp higher than the 60 watts min they suggest?

Also, I think running in for about 1 day or more should really help.

RE: Bass Response

I think I was a bit quick off the mark yesterday when I sat down and listened today I found there was plenty of bass but unlike the RX6s it was well controlled and tight. The only thing I can think of is that the few hours I played them yesterday loosened them up a bit or perhaps my hearing was not so good or I was in a hurry and didnt really listen properly.
