RE: ATC's New passive range RE: ATC's New passive range

I like the fact that I could feasibly replace Diamond 9.1s with these and nobody would notice.  Unless I put the grilles on them obviously, in which case I would be burned at the stake...

Yup. So when you're demoing the LS50s you'll be able to say, 'and if you like those, for a little more you can have this even better speaker'  :)

I still say they compete with (and in many cases, exceed) many speakers up to the £2k mark. That's not to say they are better, equal or inferior to the new SCM11, as that is a choice for the individual Smile

Will you be listening to a pair now alchemist?

As stated Ben, with an open mind [and ears].

We'll see if they are worth the extra £400.

Their bass will be the major factor for me.

They will have to be pretty special, to part with my KEF LS50's.[ The readers award speaker]

FWIW WHF have reached the clear conclusion that the new 11s beat the LS50s: see the comments of the 11s review as referred to by alchemist1. I guess you wouldn't be able to comment as you say you are still breaking them in.

I'd be interested if you let us know how many comparative auditions you do for people and what the results are.

From all I've read, I disagree with your interpretation of the bass on the original 11s. It's obviously entirely up to you what sort of presentation you like, but I do not expect that the new 11s will give you what you want.

Hi Rick,

for some reason I thought you already had the 19s and 40s in. I didn't have much experience of the old 19s but obviously know the old 11s and 40s very well so would be interested to hear both of the new iterations. 40s, 11s and maybe the C3C would make a tasty demo 5.1 setup, perhaps with your C6  Dirol

Cheers,

Ben

I'll put together a graph for you. Or would you prefer a pie chart? Whichever you choose, I'll use some really nice colours Smile

I suspect the same thing. But like everyone else, he is free to pop in and try them out, side by side with the LS50s and make up his own mind Smile

RE: ATC's New passive range

I am still supprised tha the 11s get more coverage than the 7s, the older 7s were far better than the 11s IMO/IME.

With regards to the new SCM11 Vs the old SCM11, there should not be any difference in bass performace (Depth, dynamics etc) as they are the same bass driver in the same volume cabinet.

I would like to see a photo of the old and new SCM7s, still have a soft spot for them, in particular, they imaged really well, not sure about the lack of tweeter diffraction treatment on the front baffle for the new range.

The new 19s sound interesting, I prefered the old ones to the SCM40, and the only downside was the tweeter, not quite as integrated or as smooth compared to the smaller 7. They were however very impressive in the bass, dynamics, punch and depth were a lot better than you would expect of a relatively small sealed cabinet (with a suitable amplifier though, IIRC mostly Bryston)

Hi Ben

ATC are putting the finishing touches on the new curved SCM19 and curved SCM40 passive monitors. I've used the new curved monitors in multichannel configuration (3 x curved SCM11 - L,C,R and 2 x curved SCM7 - SL, SR) with a C6 sub and this combination sounds stunning  Dirol

Anyway I'll let you know when they're available.
