Sennheiser HD 25 or AIAIAI TMA-1?
English

Am going to be buying a new pair of headphones for mixing soon and know that the Sennheiser's got a good reputation and are widely used by DJ's, but was wondering if it was worth the extra money for the TMA's? Or if anyone has any other suggestions?

Cheers, Sean.

Hi Sean. The TMA-1 are possibly too specialist to have any following on this forum. I had not heard of them till you posted here. Elsewhere I have read good reviews in relation to the Senns, but also an issue to do with build quality and part of the headband coming unstuck.

As ever, the standard advice is, can you audition or home trial before you buy?

The Sennheiser HD25 Pro version is the one used by most although the 280/380 Pros are popular.  What mixing are you doing?  Is this DJ mixing or studio mastering type work?  AKGs are used by a lot of studios for their uncoloured pure sound.  Others use Beyer Dynamics.

Thanks for the reply, I know a few people with the HD25's and have heard them a few times, they got a great sound and I like the fact you can buy each part for repairs.. I just overall prefer the style of the TMA-1's - not that that's what counts.

I don't know anywhere that stocks them, but I will look into that. Are there any other forums you'd suggest asking at?

DJ mixing - but quite possibly studio mastering in the future. I know that the HD25's are designed for studio use, but because of their great sound and isolation lots and lots of DJ's have been using them.. but the TMA-1's seem a good choice as they are purely aimed at DJ's.. decisions, decisions!

Most closed back headphones would be used by DJ's because of the qualitys they bring, AKG, Beyers and Senn's all have them in spades, i'm not a DJ but i have friends who are and it's not that easy just spinning a record and letting the crowd get on with it as you know, but i feel you need some sort of quality and the brands mentioned should be your starting point. Good luck.
