New Denon Headphones

I know this is not super new news but has anyone else seen the new Denon headphone models? I'm curious what everyone else thinks becuase I can't help thinking it's a step in the wrong direction.

Yes I do, why a well respected designer of audiophile headphones is taking design aesthetics from
Monster Beats is beyond belief.

I for one won't be trading in my D5k's for the new models no matter how good they sound.

But once you put them on, you can't see them anymore.

Personally the only thing I don't like about Beats etc, is their supposed SQ shortfalls. As for looks, they are really nice. One reason I wouldn't ever buy a pair of Grado's - It's all personal taste of course, but I for one like the modern look.

Well done Denon, I hope they sound as good, and can we have an apt-x bluetooth model please?

I don't disagree with the aesthetics of the Beats, lets face it that's what they are fashion accessories. I just don't understand why a respected Hi-Fi manufacturer would act like a bunch of sheep, they already have there own successful look

Nobody ever won by standing still (apart from the annual Romanian standing still on a pole event). Everything evolves. Apple didn't get where they are by standing still in the design stakes.

I guess that they figure fans of the Denon sound won't desert them as they are more interested in the quality rather than get hot and bothered about small design details, but younger, fashion conscious teens might be drawn to the more modern looks?

Personally I like them. But my next set will be apt-x anyway.

If we're going to talk about Apple - nobody ever won by jumping on the bandwaggon either. This move from Denon feels like they don't have enough faith or confidence in their brand going in it's own direction so they chase someone elses because it works for them, it's weak. The main reason that I brought this up is that I think the designs are really bad but I am also not a fan of Apple controls either. My Vmoda came with 2 cables with mobile phone controls and both had horrific distortion connected to every piece of equipment that I had. Back to the design though, I will be curious of the sound quality but looks wise I think the D7000 is miles better.

Well I'm no fan of Apple either, but to me these Denons look nothing like Monster beats, at all other than they have 2 ear pieces. In fact they look fairly unique. ie They aren't copying. Can't see the problem.

Maybe so, but the ones pictured (AH-D7100) by the OP are the replacements for the AH-D7000, the flagship model not some urban ear fashion rubbish.

and nor do they look anything like "some urban ear fashion rubbish".

Very stylish if you ask me. Although way out of my league pricewise.

Ah, I think we have come to the crunch.

I guess people who are spending that much on headphones don't expect a pair of Monster Beat clones.

Ah, you mean the stuff that sells in huge quantities and allows companies to afford to make the high-end models?
