How Does A CDP Power Headphones Through It's Headphone Jack?

Query please!
A headphone jack on an amp powers the headphones by a series of step-down resistors. How does a CDP power the phones through it's headphone jack? Does it have it's own little mini-amp?
I'm ignorant and curious!

ear:it must have..
Never bothered reading the manual until about 5-min ago but it says it has ....... "a high-speed buffer amplifier...." Any idea what one of those is? Sounds pretty good, though.

I am guessing, but in a CDP there would have to be an amp, unlike an amp which has an amp (obviously) and so the headphone section would be a step down from that. It is like DACs which have headphone amps in them. When you look at a C-Moy circuit board or the tiny FiiO E5 amp, there is not much needed. So a simple, small amp would easily fit into a CDP or DAC.
