Best closed 'phones for ipod/laptop
I need a closed pair of 'phones for listening to my ipod/iphone on planes trains etc, and in the office form my laptop.
I have identified my main priorities as follows:
Needs to run fine without dedicated amplification, just straight from the ipod or laptop.
Needs to not leak sound.
Needs to either have noise cancelling or very effective isolation (my gut preference is for effective isolation, but I have never tried cans with noise cancelling).
Comfortable for extended periods of listening.
I mainly listen to apple lossless files, pop electronica indie, with some napster/spotify thrown in for good measure. I will also watch videos on the ipod.
I dont really mind how much they cost, as I would like the best quality that I can really justify given there will be no external amp driving them.
Current contenders are the Denon D2000, Senn HD280, Senn PXC 450 and Bose QuitComfort15. I really like the look of the Denons, but I cannot find anywhere to demo them, and I gather that they do not isolate too well. There also seems to be different opinions as to whether an ipod can actually drive them sufficiently.
The Senn HD280 I gather isolate really well, but look very cheap and I gather are quite uncomfortable. There is also varying opinions as to the sound quality. This after all is the most important thing otherwise whats the point!
I currently have some Ultimate ears buds and Audio Technica open cans, both of which I am very happy with.
What can you guys recommend or advise?
