Hi I am new to the entire audiophile thing, I had a sennhiser HD555 and decided I want an AHD2000, I was told an amp would make the headphone sound better. How true is that?

Can anyone recommend me a nice affordable amp

Thanks

Re: Amp for AHD2000

I have a pair of Denon D5000s for about 2 years now and my experience is that a dedicated amp will only marginally increase the sound quality.
The sound difference when connected to a Musical Fidelity X-Can V8 headphones amp compared to the sound of the headphones out of a Marantz PM7200 amp or CD6000KI player is very subtle and I really mean subtle.
The X-can makes the sound slightly more euphonic than it already is, probably the bass is better behaved as-well, but again, the difference is very very subtle.

Recommendation for an amp?
What amp or headphones out are your using right now?
I know the headphones out of Marantz CD players and amps are generally very good, hence the difficulties I have finding differences with the X-can amp.
