Who's best Xbox or Playstation....
PS3 all the way. No it isn't as powerful as a top end PC, but then the gfx for that will cost more than a PS3!
Blue Ray, media player, free online play, new demos every week. If you're in the UK, BBC iPlayer, Lovefilm etc.
I have 2, an original 60 GB and a 320GB. The 320 replaced a panasonic BD blueray player that was as slow as hell...quality...at least as good.
Not a problem on either so far, other than oveheating on the original when I had it in an enclosed unit.
My 6 yr old has just about stopped playing on his Wii now, and prefers the PS3, what with the odd full price game and loads of great cheap ones from PSN.
The outage was a pain but we got 4 free games (older but full price) (We have a PSP too).
The online play I do is smooth too (although I only do Fifa 12).

And if you can find me a new gaming PC for £165, I'll take it! Or I could stretch to £200 if it can be used as a Blu-Ray player too

I used to say exactly the same thing. But for the price of a graphics card (not top end mind), you can have a machine that is dedicated to the task. It depends on the game type for me. FPS...no question, PC is better - You cannot get better control than ASD and a mouse .
If we are talking sports sims like football, or driving games the consoles win. (Usually) big screen, multi-player, great controls,(Usually) a comfier seat and (often) a full surround system. There's nothing quite like having 3 or 4 people all playing the same game at the same time on the same screen!
When the XBOX 360 and PS3 were first released, the graphics were better than anything but the most silly priced PCs...No unnecessary operating system applications, dedicated to pretty much one thing. And back then, the games were better graphically anyway (on the consoles). I seem to remember one years FIFA football didn't even appear on the PC as they couldn't do the graphics justice and sell enough copies.
Add onto that the fact you have an excellent all round media player with blue ray (PS3), with DLNA and it's hard to make a case for the PC in direct comparison.
I'm looking forward to the next generation...
Having sold my PS3 a month ago to join some friends on XBOX live, I cannot see one aspect of the XBOX that is better. Please correct me if any of the below comments are infactual - they are what I have been able to deduce.
The PS3 is a bluray player. The 360 is not.
I could play virtually all movies and music from my NAS on the PS3 without any hassle or so much as a loading sign. The network media playing options are very poor in comparison on the 360. I think they want you running a windows media center server (but I just gave up with the complexity).
PS3 has BBC iplayer and has had for over a year. PS3 has love film. XBOX has neither.
The servers aren't any better than the PSN. You can mute irratating people on either console. The downloadable game content seems to be cheaper on PSN (atleast as far as I calculated). PSN deals with £, Live with MS Points.
The 360 is really noisy in comparison. The so called 'whisper quiet' new version is most certainly not when actually doing anything.
The thing that's got to me the most is that I've actually paid more for this thin version of the 360 than I did for the thin PS3. Nonetheless, playing with friends might actually make up for all of the above from my point of view.
From my experience, playing online via Xbox Live is infinitely better than the online experience of PSN. However, I haven't done any online on the PS3 in so long now because the past experience was so painful - it used to take about half an hour before we were all playing the same game together, then inevitably someone dropped out and the process started again. So it's possible that Sony may have got their act together by now.
i would've bought a ps3 a long time ago but the controller is rubbish, particularly the thumb sticks. are there any 3rd party ones that feel like the 360 controller, which i love?

Weel the amount of new content and content thats coming to the xbox is very impressive, what has happen lately on the PS3? Apart from a major security breach of people accounts and then you having to waver the rights to sue Sony if any of your personal/card details get stollen
Well , i have had 2 PS3 consoles over the last 3-4 years ( if not longer ) , and the latest packed up just before Xmas.
Have made the decision to purchase an X-Box to replace it this time and have been been very happy with it ,it has Lovefilm, Blinkbox, Microsoft Windows, you can download a demo of pretty much any game you want and it is deadly silent in comparison to my 2 60 gb PS3`s i had previously.
I have a seperate Blu Ray player to watch films with but will miss the 3D gaming option .
The controllers are great ,
The icing on the cake ..... Gears or War 3 !!!
Will i regret my decision ? Guess time will tell !

I have the Fat PS3. The bluray drive died just recently (so I've not been able to finish Black Ops). I am intending to fix it myself but don't have the time....
