Is the best sound quality achieved simply by HDMI to my Onkyo 606?

Also does anyone else have problems with the sound for Film4 through Sky HD going loud then quiet?

To get 5.1 dolby surround sound you must connect your Sky HD Box to your Onkyo 606 via optical or coaxial cable. HDMI connection will only produce stereo sound.

Does the volume fluctuate during the film itself? Or just during adverts etc?

Just during the film, constantly up and then down every 15 seconds or so. When I put the volume at a sensible level it will drop so that you can barely here dialogue.

Don't watch many films on Film4 but has been like this for at least the past month.

Thanks for the advice. Will now need to spend some more money on cables. The wife will be pleased, better let her get those shoes she's been harping on about.
