Sky HD picture quality
I've been working away from home for about 4 weeks and so have not been able to watch Sky HD on my Panny 37PX80. However, on my return the HD picture quality seems vastly inferior to what it was before I left. The picture seems to lack any depth, clarity or detail. This weeks "Heroes" looked awful compared to earlier episodes, with faces appearing particularly soft and undetailed. The sharp bright whites of the snow in "Ice Road Truckers" now have a noticable yellow tinge and softness.
With the almost doubling of the number of HD channels available in the past few weeks is Sky struggling to find enough bandwidth to maintain the previous quality. Or does my plasma just need a few days to get back up to speed.
Interesting topic as to the quality of Sky HD: it does deliver a better picture but I am still not sure that it is worth the extra subscription. The standard Definition on my MIRAI is, to my eye, faultless; so unless, and until, I can get it through my projector the jury is still out as far as I am concerned. However, I bought the projector for films, not TV and that now means upgrading to a DVD/BD player. My concern though is if the little H56 cannot display Sky HD via its HDMI port, will I have the same problem with a disc player via HDMI? Anyone any thoughts?
I agree with you tvmog about Heroes. I was surprise by how "standard" it looked. It was definitely the was poorest for PQ this season. But i have to say im watching alot more movies since going HD, i just cant help watching 300 every time i notice its on.
No, no noticeable overall drop in PQ here either.
Sometimes the image quality leaves a little to be desired, but flicking through the other HD channels makes me think that it's maybe just poor source material on that one channel, as the others are usually fine.
I still watch Aquarivision more than is necessary, and it still seems as impressive as ever.

Do plasmas require a short while to get back to optimal operating conditions if they haven't been used for a few weeks?

Absolutely not.
Certainly no problem with the Sky HD quality either here at work or at home this week.Anyone else seen a change? Plugging and replugging your cables might help - connections can work loose - and of course if you can easily take a look at your Sky dish, it's worth checking it hasn't been knocked/obscured.
