Freesat HD Box
Sorry if this is a bit of a daft question but can the Freesat HD box just be connected to a sky dish using the two cables from the LNB and that's it ? No other set up or adjustments to do other than connecting to the tv an scanning for channels?
1 cable if you only want to record one channel
2 cables if you want to record 2 channels
if 2 channels then you will need a twin lnb
Lost Angeles:You only need one cable from sky dish LNB to Freesat box.
The above answer applies to HD box not sure if you need two cables if it's a PVR. DAVE-75 will know
sorry your right, assumed he was on abt the new pvr, if its got two tuners then two cables will be needed. most forums are waiting for the answers, i myself cant wait for someone to get one as im in the market for a pvr. im reading that the box will have a non freesat mode in which you can use other sats and get more channels (motorisded dish is what i have and will need this option to get the most out of it)
Sorry - it's the PVR version I was referring to, should have made that clearer.
The PVR needs 2 cables and a twin or quad LNB .
There are people claiming to have connected it with 1 cable. However, I think they've also reported only being able to record 1 program at once and also software updating problems. 2 is the correct way to go!
yep, as alsone says above the pvr requires twin/quad lnb and 2 cables as it has twin tuners...... and to answer the op, then yes assuming that your sky dish is aligned correctly and lnb is still in good working order all you need to do is connect up the two cables do a channel scan then your good to go.

OK, so on release, is the Freesat HD Humax PVR capable of recording 2 channels while watching another, or record 1 channel while watching another.
I say 'on release' because I'm sure I've read that Humax plan a future upgrade to the Freesat HD PVR, to enable you to record 3 channels while watching another?!!? Have I just dreamt that?! Or, are they planning to release a quad tuner HD PVR box some way down the line?
Watch one channel and record another, or record two different channels and watch one of those.

That has been mentioned before, that its possible a future software upgrade will make it possible.
Thanks Alsone, I thought I had seen it somewhere, wait and see i suppose!
So, at the moment, is it still only possible to record 2 different channels as long as you are watching 1 of those channels? and not possible to record 2 channels while watching (not recording) another channel?
I hope that makes sense.
i thought that, but actually it is possible with an upgrade in the future. humax already make a box that only has twin tuners but is capable of recording 4 channels whilst watching another .in case your wondering its the i-chord , although officially thats intended for the middle eastern market, alsina:
Recording of two channels and watching another would need an additional physical tuner in the box, so not possible as an 'upgrade' to existing machines.

Yup, I think it's actually possible with my old Topfield PVR to record two channels and watch another (even though it only has two tuners). It's down to the MUX (or something like that) that the channels you are recording are on. Since there are a few channels to each MUX, you can actually watch and record two different channels on the same MUX with only one tuner, letting the other tuner record any other channel you like.

4 channels is right but i believe that if the 4 channels you want to record are on a 4 different transponders (tp) then you can only record two of them. its all down to which tp your on.
1 tp per tuner
ie 2 channels on one tp and 2 on another tp then you can record all 4 of them and play a recorded one

You only need one cable from sky dish LNB to Freesat box.
