BBC iplayer beta on freesat.......will it ever end??

I've been enjoying programmes on iplayer beta on my foxsat box............but how much longer will it be in 'beta' form? I don't get what  purpose the beta format serves after all this time, and also wonder whether the 'proper' version will be any better or different. And now to top it all we've got a 'beta' government.
