RE: TalkTalk Offering Free Youview box

I got an e-mail about this this morning, I am a plus customer and have been thinking about a you view box for a while, I will be very happy with this offer, called them and it looks like I would be eligible! I wonder if it will be the Humax box?

So that is how they are spending the 40% increase in my non-Metropolitan broadband charges.

Nice to know that people who were already paying over-the-odds for a rubbish broadband service are subsidising people with a decent service to free films and hardware.

Such a small country and yet such a huge divide in what is now an essential part of our work and home lives.  Those that had more get more and the rest subsidise them. Angry

You'll probably find it's actually the millions of people who live in cities / urban areas and pay for broadband actually heavily subsidise the cost of getting any kind of broadband service into the relatively sparsely populated rural areas.

Has anyone been given a you view box yet? I have not heard anything, does anyone know is they are rolling them out yet? The person I spoke to about it was very vague.

Ive been part of the beta testing for the last few months and now that the NDA is finally lifted I can talk about it.  Not that it's stopped other people posting so called "hands on reviews"

Overall, it's not bad.  Not the fastest box on the planet, startup from cold takes 2m 20 secs) and for every good feature there's an equally anoying niggle to re address the balance.  Series recording being one of them, theres no record all or record new.  It's hard not to compare to a windows HTPC but when the retail price is £299 it's hard not to even tho they are in 2 seperate markets.

My review is a long one with videos and should give some sound insight to the uni.

Thanks for your review, sounds likethere are a few niggles but the overall experince was quite good. I have been thinking about a hd pvr for a while so the fact talktalk are offering them free seems like a no brainer to me.

RE: TalkTalk Offering Free Youview box

Just gone to have a look at what is happening about these you view boxes to find that talk talk are pulling a bit of a fast one. Originally they said that all plus customers could get the free box. I upgraded to the plus after being offered a nice half price line rental discount and looking at the talk talk forums so have many other people, but now if you want the TV they are making people on the plus package upgrade to a new plus tv contract so all the discounts that were offered to get people onto the contract are void.

At the least this seems like very sneaky sales tacktics and I for one am not happy that I entered into a new contract with an expectation of a discount and a TV service and am now faced with having to pay extra and enter into an even longer contract. Not sure if I am going to go ahead with it to be honest and wanted to warn other people before you sign up.
