Panasonic PVR

I'm really tempted by the Panasonic DMR-BWT800 - all that functionality in one box.
However, it's a real bummer that it doesn't support BBC iPlayer, apparently due to Viera Cast not supporting it, tho most recent Panasonic products have Viera Connect which does.
Is there a reason why the device could not (obviously presuming Panasonic felt so inclined) receive a firmware update at some point to migrate from Cast to Connect?
