Another person who can't get 5.1 from skyHD
Hi folks
This is an odd one as I'm sure I'm doing everything right. Sky have given up helping.
I browse to any HD channel where it has "DD" in title bar, but receiver still says its getting a 2 channel signal. Doesn't matter what I do can't get this to change to a 5.1
SkyHD sound set to Dolby D / Optical cable in
HDMI goes into receiver HDMI 1 and configured auto to use the optical input 1. (Onyko TXSR 807 Receiver)
HDMI out to TV. (Pioneer PDP-LX5090 Plasma)
Normally when using xbox or bluray little speaker box's light up to indicate how many channels are being received. But with Sky its always 2 (See pic)
Any body having this problem?

try connecting sky directly to the tv with the hmdi and leave only the optical running to the receiver.. that way at least you will be able to rule out that the reciever is picking up the audio from the hdmi as opposed to the optical cable.. is there an 'input' button on your receiver which allowed you to cycle through the inputs? i had to do that on my Denon till it picked up the optical cable and alls been fine since..
good idea, will give it a blast and let you know.

This is an interesting topic. I sky +'ed Top Gear Last Sunday on BBC ONE Hd. Sat down to watch it on the tuesday night. It started off in Dolby Digital on the amp. Then mid way through the program there was an audible noise that took my eye of the screen and down to the front of my amp and Pro Logic II Movie was being displayed meaning that the 5.1 was lost.
Anyone else had this??
Anyone else had this??
Yup.
Hi,
Yup +1. I even replayed it to see if it happened again. Xakkly the same spot and the DD disappeared.
Last weeks didn't record the DD soundtrack either (or didn't replay it).
Most other DD programmes seem to play OK but not been watching closely.
Cheers,
Cofnchtr.
So..... How do we sort this out??

John
Hello folks hadn't had chance to try yet, will let you know when I do.(Next week ish)
Just spotted I never updated this......ooops
Managed to fix the problem, suppose it does help to fully read the instructions with your receiver. Basically my Onkyo prioritizes audio streams as 1, HDMI, 2, Digital, 3, Analogue. Just needed to change the default to ignore the HDMI audio and to prioritise the Digital stream.
Sorted

dont think shy have fixed this yet. 5.1 via the optical out only. the HDMI is stereo only.
I would say you have something in your settings set to auto on the amp as it takes the HDMI in preference to the Optical.
A quick check plug the HDMI direct to the TV or Leave it disconnected and see if the Amp picks up the optcal 5.1 tracks.
Not a HiFi Nut. Just has a pile of Nads.
