4 on Demand & Netflix via laptop, and Freesat
a bit of a mixed bag for you here!
I watched 4oD for the first time last night.
So, in order to watch 4oD, I hooked my laptop (Dell XPSm1330) to my Denon AVR3313 via HDMI. My current freesat box (Samsung SMT-7800) does not do 4oD or Netflix (seems the former only works on the newer "freetime" boxes, and I cannot figure out how the latter will work!).
It worked but the picture was INCREDIBLY juddery. It seemed as though 1/4 of the pictures didn't make it through. Sound was fine and it all played at the right pace, but there was lots of missing frames. The best way to describe it is to think of being in a nightclub with a strobe light flashing.
I exerimented with the laptop over both wifi and ethernet from my BT HomeHub3, but no difference was detected.
I had been planning on trying netflix, but the above experience is making me think twice. Am I likely to encounter the same issue?
I don't have a smart TV and I guess my BD player (Sony BDP s760) isn't new enough for web content, so it seems that a new freesat box is the next step. Do the Freetime Freesat boxes have a netflix capability? The web seems to suggest (from late 2012) that it would soon happen, but the trail goes cold.
