Very happy with my Evoke 1S Marshall. It's got DAB, FM, headphone out and a 3.5mm Aux input, takes a Chargepak so works happily mains-free (had mine using the battery all day with no problems before now). Has a robust carry handle and (specific to the Marshall edition) beefy corner protectors. If he ain't a rocker/guitarist there are always the regular wood finishes of the rest of the 1S range.

Of course, if you're talking personal rather than portable, the 1S may prove a tad bulky. Smile

Hope it's not tooo late Smile

I know one good site which sells portable radios. I came across it when searching for a present for my friend. Finally I bought VX-350 Series for him. My friend is crazy about travelling so he always takes this radio with him. The battery life is quite long. By the way, this is one of the first things to consider while buing a portable radio. Of couse, such radios are more expensive but they worth it party time!

With the optional leather carry case and rechargeable battery back this should fulfil your criteria. It also has DAB and DAB+ as well as FM.

The company has excellent credentials as it was originally Ruark. (Who made great hifi speakers.)

If you want something smaller like a world-band radio (FM + AM + SW) then the best in my experience is the venerable Sony ICH-SW7600GR. (I had one for about ten years.)

It is about the size of a 300 page paperback novel and so fairly portable. It also has 'line-out' (stereo) so you can plug it into a hifi as a respectable mini hifi tuner (if FM reception is good).  It comes with a soft case and a spooled short-wave antenna too.

£105 on Amazon UK
