Pure Marshall DAB

I bought the original Pure Marshall DAB for my dad a couple of years ago,, for his birthday I bought him the new marshall speaker so he can listen in stereo but it does not work,, it works when you put it in the headphone socket, but not the extention socket that makes me think its the socket thats broken, but i just wondered if there is a chance of a compatibility problem?
