Is cheap DAC worth it for beginer's set?
Hi,
i currently use Thomson scenium dpl900VD home theatre set to stereo(2.1) as amplifier. I recently upgraded it with set of Q Acoustics 2010i speakers. Default surround speakers are unpluged. I also have AKG K-99 headphones but i don't listen to them as often.
As a source, I use my PC with Foobar2K and flac library (mostly acoustic stuff like Ludovico Einaudi, Simon and Garfunkel, Two Steps From Hell but also a little bit of electro swing) and i will definitely use it as a source in future.
Thought the sound is quite nice for unexperienced beginer like me, i was wandering if a new soundcard or DAC could improve the sound (I currently use SB Audigy SE
- it's the cheapest card available but better than an onboard card).
My problem as a student is very low budget so my question is: would buying cheap external DAC like FiiO D03K TAISHAN or new soundcard like Behringer UCA202 or something similar under 40-50 GPB improved my listening experience?
I will be grateful for every opinion offered.
Thank you very much....i actually googled for about 6 hours straight and I couldn't find the answer...well at least i learned quite a few things about DAC's.
Thought it looks like with this starting passion of mine i'll be poor student for my whole life

I think you might hear a small difference, but most likely it wont be worth the outlay. If I was you I would think about it again when yiu can afford £150-200. The difference with headphones will be bigger, especially when you're talking aboit combined usb dac + headphone amps.
