DAC with "body"!
English

Hello

I need a dac with optical and usb input.

My music is CD ripped FLACs played via my laptop usb

My Roksan Kandy / MA RS5 combo is lovely and detailed, maybe analytical so I'm after a DAC that will have a richer more full bodied presentation to balance things out a bit.

There are no decent hifi stores nearby unfortunately.

I'm not obsessed by perfect sound so not looking to spend more than approx £200

Any reccomendations?

At that price I think you should try a second hand Rega DAC, it has a analogue presentation, with a good bass. Maybe you can find one in your city and demo in the house of the seller or even better in yours.

Rega RP6/Goldring Elite>Clearaudio Basic Plus

Synology NAS>Rega DAC>Pathos Classic One MKIII>Dynaudio Excite X12

isn't a DAC meant to be neutral? It's a digital to analog converter, since when have DACs been charged to colour the presentation? Anyways...
Metrum Acoustics have a newish DAC called the QUAD which goes for just under £300. Probably a very good DAC, given the amazing reviews of the more expensive 'Octave' and Hex' models

Indeed a DAC should neutral as well as every other item in the chain as well, wherever possible. To be perfectly honest, most DACs already are anyway, unless a manufacturer has gone out of their way to produce colouration, or has cocked up the design.

Aune X1 for about £135 (buy from UK dealer on eBay). Superb piece of kit.
