Worth buying a DAC?
I'd like some advice regarding adding an external DAC to my current system. At the moment I have…
PS3 (used as a BluRay + games machine) and a PlayOn HD (playing uncompressed Flac files from a USB hard disk). These feed into my Denon 2310 via HDMI. Speakers are 2 x B&W CM1.
I listen to a lot of stereo music and I'd like to maximise the quality, so I'm wondering if adding an external DAC such as a Dacmagic or Caiman would be worth the extra £200? I would output from the PlayOn via optical cable, or Mac via USB into the DAC and feed the audio into a line input on the Denon. This would obviously bypass the Denon's own DAC.
Has anyone else done this? Would a DAC at this budget level produce a better sound than the Denon's internal DAC? I haven't been able to find any information regarding the Denon 2310's internal DACs ability to produce stereo music.
(I LOVE the CM1s, by the way!)
