Hi, not quite sure what you are asking here...

The AE takes the sound from itunes on the mac, and plays it through it's 3.5mm jack (either optical digital or analogue) using a wireless network as the transport.

So basically it's a way to get the sound from your imac to a stereo in another room for example.

Can't see where the nano comes into it...

yes if you're playing the nano via itunes my g/f does it with her ipod all the time when she can't be bothered plugging in the external hdd.

That depends on whether his nano is synced to your library? If not, the first thing it will do is ask you to erase the contents......

If it is though, why would you want to, since all the music is on the iMac in the first place?
