Streaming via squeezebox not as good as via bluray why?

I was lucky enough to get the amazon lightning deal for the Logitech squeezebox touch. At £140 I bought it blind and am seriously impressed how good it sounds for the money. Currently listening to 24/96 FLAC of Dawn Langstroth - Highwire and it blows away CD quality. The bit that confuses me is that using the same song with my Oppo 93 feeding into a Dacmagic2 still provides extra clarity to the vocals, the cymbals sound more realistic, better focus of the soundstage and a more defined bass. Even feeding the squeezebox into the DAC via coax still does not match the presentation of the Oppo. I always thought the DAC would have the greater influence on the sound rather than the device that is only 'reading' the file.

Any ideas why this is so?

Expectation bias. The Oppo costs 3 times more!

Yeah possibly but my mind already does not like the Oppo for streaming due to its tedious interface when looking for tracks. That said it was my first session listening to the squeezebox and maybe I need to tweak the bass level of my sub a touch.
