Stream Magic 6 'noises'
I've had a Stream Magic 6 for a week and am plagued with pops, buzzes and hums while accessing tracks. This occurs irrespective of source - I have tried various USB HDD's, streaming from a UPnP and net radio. It's not loud, but its there. This is not a hum loop problem, as the noises can be heard cutting in and out during searches. (I've played it through 'unearthed' amps, balanced i/p, phono etc. It's definatly being generated 'from within'!
Has anyone else had these problems?
Thanks
had mine about a week as well
despite multiple other issues that im still trying to iron out with cambridge, no issues at all with sound quality.
good luck!
Thanks for your comments. Lifeis11 - have you tried a USB drive attached to the unit? This is where mine is at its worse...I have a replacement unit which is ok over a UPnP server, but even more noisy with a USB drive. i have today recorded the noise with a HDV camera with a Seinheieser Shotgun mic pointed at the speaker to capture the sound to see what those that know make of it at CA!
A late response to a old post but I had this issue too. My Synology DS212j was set to transcode all files to wav, leading to what I guess was a throughput lag at point of track access (the transcoded audio couldn't be served to the client quickly enough at the start of a song, causing data gaps witnessed as audible noise). The pops and buzzes aren't too dissimilar to the sorts of noises you get from an AV amp when changing Sky Channels or swapping inputs.
I solved it by turning off all server transcoding, serving music to the SM6 in native ALAC or AIFF. It all works wirelesslely without any issues now. Might be too late for the OP, but might help someone else. It certainly would have saved me an afternoon's diagnosis.
Double post, please disregard.
Hi
I have the same stream magic/DS212J set up as you. Are you using DS media server? I have found that unless i have transcode APE/FLAC selected the stream magic cannot see any music on the server which doesn't see right to me?
I'd be interested in your experience as you seem to have all transcoders OFF.
regards

No, not something we came across. Anyone else?
