Sound card question??

My Dad has just bought the Dell Inspiron 620s (my idea!). He has a Beresford DAC and I completely forgot that it has no USB connectivity. The pc has no standard toslink connection but I've heard about the 3.5mm headphone jack can be used sometimes with an adapter. Is there any way of knowing before trying if this will work?

By the way, if it hasn't...this will do the trick nicely.

Go into "Playback devices"
Right click on the empty space and make sure "Show disabled devices" is set
You should see a device which says something like (in my case "Realtek digital output") ie digital or spdif.
or just check the tech specs of the soundcard you specified
“Out beyond ideas of wrong and right, there is a field.
I'll meet you there."
