PC Noise/Hiss when recording from Minidisc to PC via Audacity

I am using an HP/Compaq NC6320 laptop (South African model number) and a portable Minidisc player to record my Minidisc collection onto my Buffalo Terastation NAS via Audacity.

Unfortunately the WAV recordings are picking up a lot of noise and hiss.

I am sure that the PC's soundcard is one of the limiting factors.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to minimise the noise and hiss, short of having to buy a new more music and media orientated computer?

Try using a USB sound card - it takes the analog signals away from the noise of the laptop - you can get them for £50 or so...(or equivalent where you are)

Thanks mate

I ended up going for an Asus Xonar X1 - certainly seems to have done the trick.

Significantly improved recording and listening quality and looks decent too.
