Old Macs..
I can't afford a new(ish) one, but would like to get a MacBook of some description, i could get about e400 for my current laptop and perhaps add e100 to that. So i reckon that'd put me in 2008 MacBook/MacBook pro territory. 4 years is a long time in the world of tech though.
Would it be worth getting one that old? I don't do much more than surf the net and stream iTunes, but have an ATV3 and an iPhone which i really like, so i'm thinking of ditching my windows machine and going all out Apple
Any advice guys? What to look out for or not? Would an older machine still be a worthwhile purchase or are the newer one's much better? I cannot raise my budget.. Thanks..
Colleague of mine just sold a white macbook (not pro) with the same spec as my desktop for about 200 quid. Begs the question, though - why? Did somebody tell you they're better than Windows laptops?

I'm more curious than anything, i don't see anything wrong with Windows but really like IOS, and i guess i'm becoming a bit of a fanboy, so i figure i may as well give one a go, that's all there is to it really.
EDIT..The liitle Apple logo on the back of them actually glows, right?

A second hand Mac may cure you.
My Mac mini certainly put me off ever wanting to own an Apple computer ever again!
The attraction is the integration with other Apple products and the feel of quality, which in all fairness is in abundance with all Apple products.
With other Pcs/laptops you have a marriage of one persons OS and anothers technology, the results are not always a seemless union.

Yes, but so do other laptops.
I picked up a unibody (aluminium) Macbook, essentially a Macbook pro for around your budget. It depends on what you want to use it for, but I find mine perfect for my requirements. It's the 13.3" model, 2GB DDR3, 250GB HDD and 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo CPU.

The results are not always not a seamless union either, you know.
Apparently only a couple of years old, backlit keyboard? Oh yes, love it.

If Apple isn't the right flavour, maybe an Apricot from the 80s would do the trick.

So far they have been, which is more than can be said for my non Apple hardware, including several operating systems. I wouldn't say that Apple is the panacea for computing and all things IT, but they are definitely a cut above.

Let's think: new Windows laptop or 2nd-hand 'old' Mac; new Fiat or 2nd-hand 'old' VW; new Cambridge Azur or 2nd-hand 'old' Sugden; Susan Boyle's recent version of Wild Horses or the Stones' 'old' version, umm...?
Nice analogy, that works.
