Re: Foobar2000 - User Interface Gallery

Cronflow get its art from where its specified  File > Preferences > Display Source - Can also be specified in Colums UI artwork tab  and  embedded / external artwork can be selected. N.B. Flac files  don't support embedded artwork.   You still haven't said what version of Foobar your using

In your Foobar settings  directory   - should be a Database file, Playback statistics file

You could try the following  which  should help in a  directory-structure setup like you have , Do the following steps and substitute the sorting based on tags by a sorting based on your directory structure:

1. File -> Preferences
2. Display -> Columns UI -> Playlist View
3. Goto tab "Grouping" and change its values to:
1) Show groups = Tick box
2) Script = [%directory%]

I want all albums by the Beatles to appear together but I want any Beatles tracks that are part of a compilation to appear only when the compilation album appears.

To sort out Chronoflow, do the following (note this is different to before)

1) File | Preferences
2) Expand the node Display and click the Chronoflow node
3) Click the Album Source tab
4) Change the string in the Group By text box from to %album artist%|%date%|%album%
5) Change the string in the Sort By text box to %album artist%|%date%|%album%
6) Click the Display tab
7) Change the string in the only text box available to %album artist% - %date% - %album%
Cool Click the Apply button.
9) Click the Album Source tab.
10) Click the Reload Sources button.
11) Click OK

Hope this helps.

.....
I'm sure this is because I didn't treat compilation albums differently than normal albums and I now realise this was a mistake. But I'm still not sure what I should have done or how to sort it out. Your last comment about "Various" I assume is the key. Should I set the album artist of compilation albums to various? dBpoweramp identified most of my compilation albums correctly so I just assumed it would deal with them in the way they should be dealt with, but only a small proportion of my compilation albums are filed under the directory "various artists". Most have appeared under the artists name.

The folder structure shouldn't matter a jot! The only difficulty will be telling the GUI where to find the ablum art.

I have a folder called "various" where all my compilation albums live, eg

Various
1990 A Night At The Opera
1991 Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves
    Super Hits of the 60s
    ....etc

If you look at the file tags for Super Hits of the 60s, you'll see something like

Artist Name - The Kinks
Track Title - Waterloo Sunset
Album Title - Super Hits of the 60s
Date - 1994
Genre - Pop
Album Artist - Various
....etc

So, the sort/display routines I provided above will group on Album Artist. For compliation albums the tag should be set to Various.

LeoL:

I'm also not really sure what information Foobar2000 is picking up from the directory structure and what it is picking up from the Tag information. For example, I thought Chronflow displayed the cover art from the Folder.jpg file in the directory, but when I went through the Tag info for a number of albums it actually showed different cover art for different tracks within the same album. As I used dBpoweramp to do the ripping, and it got the cover art, I don't see how this could be. But I'm also lost as to where the cover art is actually held. Is it just in the directory or is the jpg held in the Tag as well? I'm using MP3TAG to go through the albums and it is the program that is sometimes showing different cover art for different tracks within the same album. Chronflow is also not always displaying the cover art for a particular album even though there is a jpg in the directory.

Chronflow will use the information in the tags (as prescribed by the user in the config) to find cover art. I think it will also display embedded art. You can use MP3Tag to consolidate the album art for track files across albums.

Forget FB2K PJ, have you seen J River Media Center?? I've just downloaded it and it looks fantastic. It also offers bit perfect playback.

Indeed. Apparently it's the computer audiophile's media player of choice in the States. I've had a play today and it's superb. The Theatre View is better than Windows Media Center and it plays everything audio and video!!

Re: Foobar2000 - User Interface Gallery

I've tried adding the ASIO4all dll to the plugin manager on the main display but it doesn't seem to get added. Have you used a different method for bit perfect playback??

Got it, tools>options>playback>output mode (ASIO)>device (ASIO4all)

I don't think I will ever need to close this program, super find.

Re: Foobar2000 - User Interface Gallery

The full version (J River Media Center 14) has WASAPI support built in if you use vista or 7. ASIO support for XP. Setting should be found in Tools - Options - Playback, may be slightly different as my 30 day trial has run out so I can't check.

The freebee Media Jukebox 12 only has ASIO support. It's what I use combined with ASIO4All.

Re: Foobar2000 - User Interface Gallery

Beat me to it while I downloaded it again, install only for it to tell me my 30 days were up. Crafty lot know if you've tried it out before. $50 price tag puts me off the full version but it looked good. Media Jukebox is good if you only do music...

EDIT - As is Foobar (don't want to get in trouble on this thread).

Glad you're pleased with it Brisk. I've bought a very small pc (Revo R3610) which will connect to my hifi and my tv and J River can be operated by a WMC remote control too.
