i think i am going to kill myself.  ripped and tagged lots of cd's using eac, copied to macmini, converted to alac using max, lost all the metadata(?).  the files are named correctly, but when they're opened in itunes it says unknown artist etc.

is there a way around this that doesn't involve re-ripping them?

if not, whats the best way to rip them on the mac with accuracy in mind?

thats assuming i can reach the mac while swinging from the ceiling.

I don't use EAC though your best option to reimport with itunes is to set error correction to on and the encoder to ALE. Have you tried Advanced > Get CD track names?

I had a few albums which had wrong metadata.  I used an application called MusicBrainz Picard to retrive the meta data.  You open up the files in MusicBrainz and it finds the meta data for you.  I didnt read the manual, so it took me a while to figure out how to use it.  If you've got loads of music it may be worth reading up on the program.

May I ask why you are converting from FLAC to Apple Lossless (especially, AFAIK, it's compression mechanism is inferior resulting in larger files than FLAC)?

Re: flac to alac arrrggghhhhh!!!!

thanks for the suggestions, hopefully i can avoid re-ripping.

beta, the reason for converting is so i can use itunes on the macmini using an ipod touch as a remote.  itunes doesn't play flac.

hang on, isn't there a plugin for itunes that enables it to play flac?  if i can't convert to alac without losing the metadata, i will check the plugin out, there's just no way i can face ripping them again.

Fluke is the application. To be honest mate it sounds like a long run for no real audible benefit (IMO). I would import in iTunes.
