dont understand?!
Hi folks,purchesed dbpoweramp today,downloaded ok,ripped a few disks...no worries.All albums ripped to flak,all stored in my music,complete with data
I have windows 7 on my laptop...(.wirless) it has conected to my avr....but when i try to open music via the avr, nothing is in the files, again when i open in windows it says it cant play files?!
Internet search suggested that i need a flak pluggin or something to play via windows.
So if anyone could shed some light,or offer assistance this newbie would appreciate it greatly:)
Just downloaded VLC media player,so i can play music on laptop, but the avr still says no content

Have you got media sharing turned on in WMP?
"If media sharing is not already turned on, you need to turn it on by doing the following:
-
Click the arrow below the Library tab, and then click Media Sharing.
-
In the Media Sharing dialog box, select the Share my media check box."
Waaahhhhheeeeyyyy!

Yes Andrew, media sharing is turned on in WMP.The problem is that i cant open the flac files in'my music'in WMP....it just doesn't seem to recognize them....but thanks for your reply sir
Thanks,i will try it,although i havn't the fogiest what a unp thingy is
Guess its a good way of learning
cheers

Yep, Windows Media Player and FLAC is always going to be an uphill battle. You should go for a UPnP server like MediaMonkey (which also rips), Twonky or Asset UPnP
I've just paid for dbpoweramp so not looking to use anything else to rip.Could someone explain the next step please...would a media manager such as helium do the trick?(cant get my head round mmonkey)
Not bothered if windows doesn't play my music as i want to play it via the avr, guess i'll need more kit for that?
cheers
The UPnP (Universal Plug 'n' Play) server software is what makes the music on your PC 'visible' to – and thus playable by – external devices such as your AVR. In other words, they form the bridge between computer and receiver, if you like by searching for and indexing the music files on the PC in a form the AVR will recognise.
MediaMonkey and Tversity are free UPnP servers – for many others you have to pay.
Great,i understand now,thanks again Andrew:)
In your opinion would it be advisable to install a paid for version,as your link earlier suggested no free download,or just use media monkey for free?I want to get this right as it is very frustrating when one doesn't realy know what one is doing
Sorry to rain on your parade, but my experience with UPnP for music to Sony Bravia TV and BluRay player is that it's a right, royal pain. The user-experience compared with a music-orientated player like Sonos or Squeezebox is chalk'n'cheese.
FWIW, I get the impression that the vendors do their testing with Windows Media Player and Twonky.
Your opinion is very welcome.....i'm looking at adding a sonus or such ,but for now i just want to my cd's ripped, and if possible listen via the avr......i will add a nas very soon, but if i install a media player thingy on my lap top now, will that be able to transfer to the nas?as you can guess i'm
...i've never done anything like this before....just wish it was as easy as connecting a bundle of wires
Media Monkey would be fine, and TVersity is, of course, only almost free – a licence for the basic version will cost you $3.99.
Just about every NAS will come with its own UPnP software installation already in place – although the various software used can be of variable quality, as I explained in this blog piece of just over a year ago.
However, in theory all you have to do when you have a NAS is transfer your content to it, and then point your AVR's media player to the NAS rather than the PC.
Ok,installed media monkey...my ripped music is showing.....but avr says access error...no content
What do i need to do?wish there was a book for this....
Think i'll give it up as a bad lot....i love loading cd's anyway
....perhaps i should turn my attention to records

Yeah windows won't play flac natively, I think there's a flac plugin for WMP, which is probably what the AVR is using to try to read the files.
No signature worth mentioning...
