Donald Fagen The Nightfly 24bit 48khz

I have read somewhere that the album was recorded on a 16 bit digital 3M. Why would I gain anything by buying the 24bit hires version available at hdtracks.com? Won't it just be an upsampled version?

unless the album uploaded on hdtracks was a rip from the 2002 DVD audio disc..

 

theres a few currently on amazon, used and new.. but are going for quite a bit

 

Donald and co must had converted the original masters through careful up sampling maybe?, but everyone says that the DVD-a version really is the one to go for, even narrowly bettering the original 82 Warner bros lp

 

i think the DVD-a is also a sorround mix, as well as stereo, I think..
