"Batch"-copy album metadata?

As I venture into computer playback of hi-res fiels enabled by getting a DAC, I now need to re-rip my CDs. the problem is that I have many CDs for which track names etc do not come up automatically from gracenote (in Itunes). These CDs are either my own CDR compilations or CDs of obscure local artists from another country. When I originally ripped all my CDs in compressed formats I had to put all track names, album names, artwork etc manually for those CDs.

Now, as I am re-ripping:

is there a way to "batch"- copy the metadata (that is in itunes with the existing Cd rip) for the whole CD as I re-rip it to avoid re-entering everyhting manually? If not within itunes, maybe there is an additional application?

Hi

It might be worth you checking out DBpoweramp. It uses 4 metadata providors so there is a good chance one of those will have the correct information. I use it and have only had a few cd's not recognised, out of well over a 1000.

Cheers

This is just a guess, but if you leave your music as it is now, when you put your cd in it itunes will recognise it and the info as well. Alter your ripping settings to lossless then rip again. I'm not sure if this would overwrite the existing file or create another. If it creates another after all your ripping you could search by bitrate and delete all your old files in one go.

Like I said it's just a guess, but I think it would work.

Nope, Andy. the problem is itunes does not recognise these discs, only shows "track 1, track 2" etc. even if they have been previously ripped and manually tagged.

for discs that it does regognise and only if they match exactly what is already in your library it offers to replace or add. but for that everything has to match letter by letter. if not (e.g. if you changed a symbol or smth in your original rip), it will not offer to replace and will create a duplicate when re-ripping.
