Aego M, AudioEngine A2 or the Lars & Ivan "Bobo" BK21 for use with PS3?
Hi Guys
Not sure that this is in the right place so apologies if not! Ive recently purchased a Panasonic TH37PX80 and a Sony Playstation 3. I would like improved sound for Blu ray and music and dont really want bulky amps and lots of speakers so I'm thinking about purchasing either the Aego M, AudioEngine A2 or the Lars & Ivan "Bobo" BK21. Firstly whcich ones do you recommend for my set up and requirements? Secondly what is the best way of connecting them? To my PS3 or my TV? Will I need to buy any extra cables?
Many Thanks Guys, I look forward to hearing from you!
Many thanks. Cheers for clearing that up! RCA it is. Can anyone recommend any of the speakers?
The Aego M is a 2.1 system, ie comes with a subwoofer. This does add a bit of weight to the sound which may be better suited to movies than the A2s.
I have the Aego M and find it to be remarkly good for the money. I've not heard the A2s but they do come highly recommended by the mag.
Perhaps the Prof can give a view on the suitability of the A2s with movies?
I think they'd be fine (though I only use mine for music in the bedroom), but as I say, whether they'll have enough grunt is down to room size. There's also the Audioengine S8 sub which will add some grunt for bigger rooms, but it's about twice the cost of the A2s on top. You could also consider the A5s.
Also, see this thread for practicalities to think about with the Audioengines e.g. lack of remote control.
Lack of remote also applies to Aego M.
Thanks for your help. I think I will go for the Aego M's taking into account the sub and the cost. The cheapest I've found them is £98. Or maybe try ebay?
Thanks again
I think if you can stretch to £195.00 the Onkyo HTX22HD 2.1 set up would be a great option for you and your PS3. It decodes HD audio from your games and any Blu-Ray movies you may have and will provide a staggeringly better sound than the Aego M in my opinion. There is no seperate box to worry about as the amp is built in to the sub. It was £300 but has been reduced to just under £200 since Christmas.
I would see this as much better value for money.

Ooh, interesting!
(trots of toread what hifi review and look at prices).
EDIT - dont think there is a whf review.
the Onkyo HTX22HD 2.1 look a good buy at that price but they are double the cost of the Aego M's. I cany really justify that as I will be listening to alot of music on them aswell so not really the need for HD sound. Thanks for the help though!

From the spec, these look pretty good for £195. See here. Wonder what they sound like?

The A2s are good, but small, so it will depend on the size of your room whether they can provide a big enough sound. Can't comment on the others. I guess the best way to connect would just simply be a standard RCA phono lead from the TV output to the A2s (or whichever other speaker set you choose assuming it has RCA phono in). That way, any sound fed which normally comes from the TV can be sent out to the speakers.
