...and how long did it take you?

I started on the 06 August and so far I've ripped 322 albums spanning 434 CDs (lots of multi-disc). There's 6,512 tracks, which according to iTunes, if played end-to-end would last 16 days 23 hours 41 minutes and 16 seconds.  I have about 50 CDs left to do, maybe slightly more but not by much. I could have done more in the same amount of time but I don't know what kind of mental-state I would now be in.  It's only the frequent sanity-breaks that have stopped me from losing my mind.

I've ripped about 350 CDs (and have a little under 500 GB music), and the reason I bought a RipNas was to make it painless..........and it was.

The RipNas is beside where I sit, and any time I was in the room would bung them in.......which was around 20 CDs in an evening and more at a weekend. It took all the stress out of it.

RE: So who's ripped the most CDs

So far....and counting......my iTunes as of this moment shows.........

42,331 tracks,

3992 albums,

121.7 days,

1,070.74 GB.................

This has had to be ripped twice, due to being a 'plonker', when setting up my NAS and managing to erase the path to the HDD, so my PC couldn't see it...and the only option was to reformat.....ouch.....

I wouldn't like to guess how long this has taken me, but many, many hours, days, weeks, months...etc......

Richard..........I promise not to touch too many buttons on my laptop........

No prize for you then Smile

Zigg47 has ripped 3992 albums. (Twice!)

If he listens for two hours a day, every single day, he has enough to last almost 5 years without every hearing the same track twice.

RE: So who's ripped the most CDs

Mine are a bit spread out, so as follows:

Zeppelin ipod 160gb Classic: 609CDs, 296 Concerts, 24.9 Days, 3906 Songs

Dio ipod 160gb Classic (Rainbow, Sabbath, Dio, H&H) 1007 CDs, 568 Concerts, 35.7 Days, 8254 Songs, (Synced at 256Kbps)

Ipod Touch 304 CDs, 13.1 Days, 2328 Songs

iphone 151CDs, 7.2 Days, 1012 Songs.

It took about 4 months to do the ipod Classics back to back, as I did them in error correction mode. I still have about 1,000 concerts in FLAC held on an expansion drive. These range from Hendrix in 1966 to Rival Sons recorded last week. I've also got about 600CDS that aren't ripped.

..... still well behind Ziggy excellent!

Don't mention backups. I really should back-up to an external removable drive. 1TB USB drives are dirt cheap these days (comparatively) but I keep putting it off until I finish the whole lot.

Tell you what though: it's been a great exercise for making me rediscover my CD collection, because I've ended-up playing CDs that normally my eyes just scan past going 'nah...not in the mood for that'. Before starting this exercise I think I'd fallen into a rut of playing maybe the same 25% of my CD collection and hardly touching the rest.

6,426 albums. Where did you get all those? To amass that lot, you'd need to buy one a day for over 17 years.

How long did it take you to rip those?! Going by my average of 434 CDs in 199 days, ripping your CD collection would take me a little over 8 years...

RE: So who's ripped the most CDs

You think ripping CDs is bad, try ripping DVDs, then converting them to an appropriate format. Not that I'm doing that of course, because it wouldn't be legal. But hypothetically speaking, I'm sure that would be a righteous pain in the EDITED.

Ahem.

rolling on the floor laughing Couldn't bring myself to do that. I don't have even nearly the hard-drive space to make it worthwhile.

RE: So who's ripped the most CDs

I've only got around 250 or so complete albums (many are two disc though), IIRC its around 120 - 130Gb worth so far. Took me a couple of weeks to do the main bulk, but it was a continous effort whilst waiting to be made redundant!

What would the best way to do that be? Hypothetically speaking.

I've around 18,000 tracks, took me weeks. I started early last year and I'm still amending metadata. I'd do it differently next time though and I'd like to rescan some of my data to auto correct/adjust some compillation info. iTunes won't do it as most were ripped pre-iTunes.

Any ideas how to go about this?
