Moving itunes from local hardrive to wd book live
I am going to move my 440gb itunes media folder to my new my book live 2tb unit as it has a itunes server thing built in. So i was hoping both my main laptop by my av setup and my other laptop in my bedroom could use the same folder but the problem is as i wanted it finds them both as shared librarys but displays a massive list rather than music movie tv show photos ect. With artwork plus the next problem is i know i need my main laptop on with itunes running which pretty much on 24/7 with foobar and dropbox running but how can the apple tv3 see the shared wd my book live.
No, Apple TV cannot see a NAS drive unless it's jailbroken. Apple TV 3 has not been reliably jailbroken yet.
Thanks i thòught it could see the nas once i ha itunes running on a laptop . I can see my laptop on the apple tv but it wont show the shared library is hat normal
Yes, 'fraid so. One solution might be to point the WD NAS's built-in media server to your iTunes library stored on the NAS, then use something like one of these to play the music into your AV set-up, unless you get one of the more modern AV receivers with built-in streaming capability, when that'll do the job for you.
The WD player has an optical digital audio out, and an HDMI video/audio connection.
Thanks for the info will you guys be reviewing the wd tv play looks good. I have the older tv live streaming box for dvd mkv rips and i use foobar into dacmagic and controlled via the monkey mote app on ipad for music. So itunes and apple tv is really only used for airplaying you tube , spotify and for 1080p films and music videos that i started buying off the istore. Its better now thats its got music and movies but it has no artwork and my apple tv see cant see the library
