Hi-Res music sources 192 kb/s

Does anybody know where to get legimate hi res audio, 24-bit instead of 16-bit. I have googled it but some very ominus sites appear, and I'm not to keen in punching in my card details to get a download. There seems to be no mainstream vendors unless anyone knows otherwise.

Whatever happened to SACD?

I'm not sure where you might get such downloads, but be aware that higher than CD resolution files will not guarantee a better quality track. Any differences that exist will be because of a difference in recordings and not the file resolution itself. CD resolution is perfectly adequate for the best audible recording quality.

That is not to say that higher resolution tracks are not worthwhile if the only way to get a better recording is via the high res tracks/album. Some high resolution files have been proved to be different masters or mixes from that of the lower res files, so as to appear different and justify the extra cost.

Forearmed is forewarned.

Thanks for the advice, the hunt for high res recordings will probably die out soon, as it proves to be quite expensive.

Recording quality varies wildly so it is probably best to just seek out the music that you like the most and enjoy it. Far too many people over analyse the situation and spend more time critiquing the recording and how their equipment sounds rather than enjoying the experience (music). Having said that, great recordings are a joy to listen to, but I don't find a less than good system or environment lessens my enjoyment of great music.

High res recordings are a bit of a rip off anyway if you ask me, as all recordings start off as 24 bit before being downmixed for CD, yet despite this extra processing, physical CDs remain far cheaper than high res downloads.

RE: Hi-Res music sources 192 kb/s

The important thing to note is this...

The highest quality MP3 has a bitrate of 320kbps, whereas a 24-bit/192kHz file is transferred at a rate of 9216kbps and music CDs are transferred at 1411kbps.

Don't mix up 192kHz and 192kbps.

A CD is way higher resolution than an MP3.

one of the best at the moment is the small Amsterdam based company Sound Liaison.(soundliaison.com).

They are getting very good reviews and I personally am a great fan.

They sell Wav  Hi rez Studio Master downloads.

Their recordings has been nominated for best recording of 2013 on the Naim and Computeraudiophile sites.

And you can listen to the recordings in full on the site before deciding to buy, I find that  a big plus. And you can buy single tracks, also a big plus.

My favourite at the moment is the ''Thousand Shades of Blue'' Album from Carmen Gomes Inc.

Her version of ''I'm on Fire''and the haunting interpretation of ''Angel Eyes''is absolutely audiophile heaven.

Highly recommended.
