Hi there - first post - treat me gently!

Just a word of warning to anyone thinking of buying a Pioneer LX54 Blu Ray player.  Decided to change my Sony S550 because on certain DVDs (Blu Rays were fine), the sound would drop out - managed to fix this by changing sound output to PCM from HDMI. Sound quality was not so good, and I kept forgetting to change it back to HDMI, so decided to get LX54.  Turned up promptly from Sevenoaks HiFi and hooked it up.

The problem was this:

It seems that in order to view DVD's with a 4:3 aspect ratio, I have to enter the player's settings each time and change the setting from 'Widescreen TV' to '4:3 TV'.  I have a collection of DVD's and Blu Rays that comprise of both Widescreen and 4:3 aspect ratios (as I imagine a lot you folks do) and having to dig into the Pioneer's menu settings every time is inconvenient and irritating in the extreme!!  My Sony switched automatically between the two with no problems.

I phoned Sevenoaks who suggested I phone Pioneer technical assistance which I duly did.  Very helpful chap did lots of checking and said that, unfortunately,  there was no way round the problem.

Needless to say, bit miffed with Pioneer and am having to send it back to Sevenoaks for a full refund.

So beware if you have, as I do, a load of DVD's in 'old-fashioned' 4:3 aspect ratios and are considering this player!
