Budget blu-ray that can stream ALAC from a NAS?

Not sure if this should be in here or the streamers board, but has anyone used a Sony BDPS390 budget bluray to stream music from a NAS? Looking at this as an option and can't see ALAC in the file support info.

Alternatively, anyone know a budget bluray with ALAC file support for streaming music from a NAS, and a decent iOS control app?

Cheers.

I'm tempted to say 'Welcome to the wonderful world of Apple - where nothing works with other peoples kit', but I'll bite my tongue and refrain from doing so  listen to this

Short answer - there arent any BDPs that support ALAC.

Nice and simple.

I would expect it to come on stream in more boxes now that ALAC's gone open source - or so I heard.

To be fair not many BDPs support FLAC either...

BDPs tend to be very limited in audio formats they stream - I guess they expect you to use your amp for streaming music (or a mediaplayer/streamer)

Maybe have an app on your NAS that transcodes to WAV/LPCM ?

Several of the current Panasonic range do - notably the DMT-BDT500.

The Cambridge Audio 651BD & 751BD do play FLAC. I tried that with USB HDD, did not try the streaming option yet.

And yes, there's is no ALAC support in BD-players. I guess FLAC is easier/cheaper to implement. puzzled

Maybe you can use something like 'Airplay'?
