3D Blu-ray player around £500
Looking to buy 3D Blu-ray player around £500 asap but looked at many reviews that my head is bursting... looked at Denon 2012 / Cambridge 651BD / OPPO BDP-93 + others. I have a Sony STR-DE475 amp which i will be replacing in near future with Onkyo or Yamaha 7.1 System spending around £500 also, any advice would be welcome
Save your cash and get the Panasonic 310
Agreed. No point in spending 50% of your budget in a blu ray player. Rest of your system won't be good enough to appreciate its benefits. Better to spend extra cash on a superior AV receiver which is the heart of any AV system.
Onkyo BD-SP809 will go perfect with
agreed with the guys, if you had a higher spec receiver and speakers i'd be suggesting the Oppo BD 93 but then i suppose it depends on what your upgrade path is like.. if you do intend upgrading your receiver and speakers in the short term then the BD 93 is a great choice as it will allow you to go secondhand on the receiver and buy a 1.3 hdmi spec unit like a denon 3310 etc for a lot less money than the newer kit.. but then the Panasonic 310 also allows this and if all you are interested in is picture/soudn quality its a great choice.. if you want real flexibility like being able to play practically any video format from external hard disk then the Oppo is the way to go.. it'll play iso images of blu-ray discs and dvds etc.. its very simillar to the cambridge audio players..
it really depends on what you are going to do in the future.. if you dont plan to upgrade the rest of your kit then the Oppo is probably overkill
Let me give you a hint - Onkyo. Or perhaps the new Pioneers or the forthcoming Panasonics. I think the Oppo 93 and the CA 651BD are now beat for picture quality.
wow a bold statement
have you compared the Oppo to the Onkyo? I think most people would agree that there's not much in it when it comes to picture quality from the high end players.. some offer different quality sound but I think what sets some players appart is their flexibility.. but its really down to the requirements you have..

Thanks all for your help
. . . think i have made up my mind on buying Onkyo TXNR 809 along with Onyko SP809 Blu-Ray player....
micks-address - well no, but I do have the CA 751BD which picture wise should be identical to the Oppo 95. And the Onkyo - well I don't want to spoil the fun
The Onkyo will obviously be ruled out if you have a SACD/DVD-A itch.
im pretty sure the picture quality on the Oppo 93 and Oppo 95 will be pretty much the same, the main improvements on the 95 are in the analog outputs audio..
I am new to this hi-fi/ home gear to some degree so any help i will listen to... today i had a visit to my local sevenoaks dealer with regards to duy/looking at poss purchase and when i mentioned the Onkyo TXNR 809 his view was that the sound is not as good as Denon AVR-3312 or AVR-2312 so this put me in doubt on wot to buy. As i stated i have looked at reviews on avr,s up to £700 and 3D blu-ray player around £500, he did not know anything about the oppo-93 which seems to have good reviews but advised me to buy Denon 2012 player... I AM BACK TO START + UNSURE - - as i do not have a great knowledge yet...
Any ideas will help Thanks

Hi Mani, can you expand on why you would recommend the two unreleased, unproven units over the oppo and cambridge?
Arty, did the dealer let you demo any of the players that they had to let you compare? It is always best to go off your own opinion if possible.
Hi thanks for reply, they did not have any units i like ( this was my second visit) not in stock - some dealer so he was not looking to give a demo just wanted to get back to his P.C to carry on some downloads... I like the oppo- 93 but not sure on AVR ( Onkyo / Denon.... I live 40 mins drive from glasgow and scotland does not have much in the way of dealers...

Well what's proven about the CA-651BD, or even the CA-751BD? I can tell you now I can pick holes in the 751 - its slightly dim picture for example.
Ok, and all apologies WHF, read their review of the Onkyo blu-ray player.

I'm sorry but I wouldn't take the dealer's word without demoing & comparing the receivers myself. We all have our preference with sound, & the dealer's might be different to yours.
Ask your dealer to arrange a demo for you, & compare them yourself.
FWIW, I had a chat with my local Sevenoaks dealer before Christmas & he thought the Denon receivers have gone down in quality over the past couple of years, & Onkyo & Pioneer are getting better. He wasn't impressed with the 2312 & the 3312, and was not surprised at the recent price drop.
Bottomline is; demo yourself & decide what's best for you.
hey bigboss,
just off a topic a little bit here, I`ve just seen another thread in another forum where this guy said he had his BDP-140 DVD multiregioned in Sevenoaks by a dealer with some REMOTE, so if you can get to your Sevenoaks dealer, would you please ask him what`s the procedure?
I guess it`ll be the same for BDP-440/LX55
