Why Can't I get a Picture when the Pioneer VSX-LX55 isn't on???
Hi, I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to this type of thing so please be gentle!
I have the above amp and whatever I do I can't seem to get a picture on the TV when the amp isn't on. I'm not running anything special through it and it is the same if it is Sky, Virgin, Blu Ray or Xbox. The TV is a Samsung UE46D8000.
I have looked at the manual to the point where I cant see the words anymore. What am I doing wrong or does this amp (Unlike others I have owned) not have this function?
Many many thanks

It does have passthrough (mine does) but you may have to switch it on in the menu system (although I think mine worked straight from the off).
Amp and TV will talk to each other e.g. when I switch the TV on the amp automatically comes on and the switch off together. I haven't figured out how to configure this but it just does it and it's useful so I leave it
Have you got HDMI control switched on?
Hello, yes it is on. On the same menu screen "Standby Through" is showing as "normal". This is making me feel old!

trying to get to grips with this amp it seems so hi- tech, to us golden oldies
my grandson 12yrs has done a lot better at setting it up than me, good luck.

Does it make a difference what source is selected before switching the amp off? Try switching to the appropriate source for TV viewing and then switching the amp off.
Does this help??
It seems I never had a chance! I had the following email from Pioneer:
"On the VSX-LX55 the only way it will output audio and video from a
connected device while in standby is if the connected device supports HDMI
control. Unfortunately this rules out Sky HD as the Sky HD boxes do not
support HDMI Control."
I assume then this is the same for Virgin. Thanks to everyone that was willing to help.

Surely it's better to have it on anyway? Then you can use your speakers instead of the tv for sound.

That is indeed so, TV speakers are generally not very good at all. Even simple 2-channel audio sources are much better through external speakers than through the TV. Incidentally, I don't know if standby passthrough is a relatively recent thing, but I don't get standby passthrough using my most expensive but oldest receiver, the Denon in the parlour, whereas the newer Yamahas in the kitchen and bedroom do have standby passthrough.

It may simply be that your Pioneer VSX-LX55 receiver (which I don't know at all) does not have standby passthrough.
