Hi, I'm looking to replace the receiver in my dad's current set up. He has an old Sony DVD/Receiver, which is pre-HDMI and obviously pre BluRay. He has a set of Mission M7S 5.1 speakers, which will be staying (regardless of your views he isn't going to budge with them!)
So, The room is only small aroune=r 12ft x 12ft. Only real requirements re HDMI outs, and be easy to use and set up (100's of different sound-modes/processing options is a negative.)
Will only be used at low-medium volume for Movies/Sky
Thanks, I value your opinions
Should also say it will be hooked up to a Sony Blu-Ray player
Hey, I got a Sony SR-DA1200ES two weeks ago for £70 from E-Bay. I started thread about it, singing it's praises, if you want to read it. I would say that it's perfect for your old man as he's a Sony user already and obviously likes how they sound with his speakers. It has the HDMI inputs that he's after. You absolutely won't get a better second hand amp for under a hundred quid.
GyroDec SE - TechnoArm A - Grado Reference Platinum 1 cart
Rotel RCD-991 - Exposure VII Pre amp (Dual Mono) - 2 x Exposure VI PSU - Exposure Super VIII Power - Rogers Studio 1A
Optoma HD33 projector - 106" screen - Sony STR-DA1200ES - Tannoy Eyris Surround Package - REL Strata II
I will hunt your thread out!! Sounds goo though, and as you say it will keep his kit Sony too. Many Thanks! Can I ask if it is esy for a newbie like him to set up?
Oh, absolutely. Set up is automatic. You plug in a supplied microphone and it sets up the sound for you. All your dad will have to do is connect up his dvd player, tele and speakers. A doddle.
haha what you mean is all "I" have to do is connect up the dvd player, tele and speakers!! Thanks for your advice
