Replacing an old Receiver
Currently I have a Harmon Kardon AVR8500 Receiver which
is giving sterling service, but it lacks (Due to its age) all the modern
decoding and facilities of modern units, however it is absolutely cracking with
Music (After comparing it with others at the time of purchase (Including What
Hi Fi Award winners) it was so far ahead of the completion (With Music) that it
was the obvious choice for me)
Question:
What would be a modern suitable replacement that would
give me all the mod cons, and still be right on top of the pile with music, or
would I need to add a separate stereo amp to the new unit to obtain the musical
quality of the AVR8500? (It would be a bit impractical to keep both, just using
the AVR8500 for music)
Look forward to your replies
Bill
The current system is currently being upgraded to Hi Def., however I will be keeping my Monitor Audio S2s for music listening, and get a B& W MT50 Setup for the Home Cinema part.
Blu-Ray will most likely be the Panasonic DMP-BDT500 and a Humax You view Box, (Dishes aren’t allowed) I will also be adding a NAS and depending on the streaming quality of the Panasonic a separate streaming playback device. (My CD player will disappear at the same time)
Viewing will be via a Benq. Projector and the CRT TV will remain for general TV watching.
Price wise, up to £2000
Hope this helps with your suggestions
Bill
