ipod

I have just connected my ipod to my Pioneer sc-lx82 receiver and it is playing music but my remote wont allow me to select tracks etc.The remote wont forward or back and my sub woofer volume cannot be adjusted while listening to the ipod?

Any ideas or am I stupid?
