From Arcam 280 to Yamaha RX-V1067?

I changed from a Denon 1910 to a Yamaha 767 & it's a vast improvement especially with the centre speaker. The reason i changed the Denon was made it sound very bass heavy after 6 months of running in, the Yamaha is a vast improvement. Unfortunately though i cant give you a definitive answer with a comparison with your Arcam. I am very pleased with my setup now, more so now i've upgraded from the Ikon Vocal 1 to the Vocal 2, it's night & day with the sound improvement. So the answer to your question is yes in my case i found the Yamaha a good match for the Dali speakers.

Thanks f1only, I have just made too many "blind" mistakes so, I really need to try to avoid one more.  When I read the reviews of the 671 and the 1067 it almost sounds as if the 671 was better for music than the 1067 so, this is confusing me a little bit.  Unfortunately the shop which has the offer of the 1067 for 450 pounds does not sell the 771, they do sell the 671 thougth.  I am going to try and contact them to see if they would allow me a small test.  At least it sound that they match well with Dali which is good.   Unless I see this very clear I may just stick with my current Arcam for another year.  Regards,

as good as the Yamahas are - the Arcams are also still no slouch

I had a AVR350 (Arcam) and I much preferred it over the Yamaha 3800 - I've since had a Yamaha 3067 in my system and would still pick the Arcam over it - the 3067 again sounded great -but the Arcam in my system better

remember though the Arcams at oriignal prices were at a different (higher) price point

I agree....I preferred the AVR350 to everything I tried at the time, and it took the AVR500/600 to totally outclass it.

Thanks for the comments.  I went to the shop and they did not have the yamaha connected so, I could not test it.  In any case I believe that the only reliable test is at home with your own speakers.  I spoke with the sales person and he was also of the oppinion that the yamaha would not be an improvement to my current Arcam specially with music.  However, I told him that my objective was really to add a stereo amp latter on.  Then he said that if that was the case he would support the idea because that was the solution that they were recommending to the people who also want to use their system for music.  They were very honest and did not want to just make a sale so, I appreciated that.  They were clearly not in favor of any AV receiver for music.

The main 2 problems with my Arcam is that 1) No HD decoding and 2) no Pre-outs.  Therefore I am going to save a little bit more and explore further the option of the AV + stereo solution for next year.  I just have some doubts right now and I do not want to regret later.

It is a pitty that Arcam did not want to cover anymore the reasonable price ranges.  They started with the ARV100 and 200 but then they started to move up all the way to the very expensive price ranges with the AVR 600 and 500 without covering the previous ranges anymore.  Now they moved down a little bit with the AVR 400 but it is still too expensive for me and I have not seen such great comments about the stereo performance.
