Hi,

For the moment, I use a pair of Monitor Audio BX2’s with an Onkyo TX-SR308. Sure, the amplifier is the most lacking component in the system, thus the best route seems to upgrade it. Budget: £400. However, I'm willing to spend more if the sound can justify the price.

Considering these AV receivers: Yamaha RX-V673, Pioneer VSX 1021-K and the Onkyo TX-NR609. Aside, the 2012 models of the above cost around £200 more, but is it worth it?

Looking forward to hearing your responses.

If you like the sound of your current 308, the 608 will be ideal. The Yamaha will bring a little more of a laid back sound to the BX2's, and the Pioneer a little more excitement. In a second system, I use a Pioneer with a pair of BR5's. I've found the Bronze models to improve well with better receivers, so if you want to make the most of the BX2's, be prepared to spend a little more for the £500/600 models.

Thanks for outlining the sound of each amp!

Which amps are you referring to?

The Yamaha RX-V673 is a 2012 model, Richer Sounds today told me that the one they have on display arrived only this week!

I'm well aware of that now. Anyways, thanks! In my haste of typing, I forgot to write the statement in such a way.

Hi malooq

With Yamaha's current Aventage Series of AV receivers on their way out you should find that the RX-A810 is now (RRP £850) generally available around £500. With music and movie soundtracks the RX0-A810 offers even higher level of performance then the already excellent RX-V673 Smile

In my experience the synergy between Yamaha AV amplification + Monitor Audio speakers forms a great match time after time rockin out

All the best

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the recommendation! Have had a brief look at the RX0-A810 before.

How much of an improvement in sound is in the RX0-A810 over the RX-V673? What type of sound does the RX0-A810 produce? I hear according to WhatHifi Yamaha's have more of a spacious sound opposed to a precise one.
