Hi all,

Im looking at the Yamaha rx-v773 as my av amp but I'm not sure if my speaker selections are a good match so I'm hoping for a few opinions…

I was looking at the monitor audio silver fx surround which state an amp recommendatio of 10-80 watts. The monitor audio bronze bx1 amp recommendation 15-70 watts and the montitor audio silver centre 40-125 watts. Where I'm not sure is the the Yamaha v773 states an output of 160watts per channel. Is that too high for my chosen speakers.

Also the silver fx surround are 6 ohms the rest are 8 ohms so which setting does the amp need to be in 6 or 8.

Help pls… well confused

Thanks in advance for any replies

I have the Yamaha 767 & the one you are talking of is the more recent version but with a few technical upgrades.

The amp when you set it up using the YPAO calibration mic should sort it all out for you when it is doing its tests & room set up to alter the EQ so it should be fine.

I would try & get an audition if possible with the speaker selection you mention to see if you like the sound. The amp will go well with Dali Speakers although the subwoofer was not to my liking & i plumped for a B&W which does the trick very well.

Regards...

RE: Av. Amp/ speaker match up

Hi there and thanks for the reply.

I understand what your saying about the calibration sorting alot out for you but I didn't think that applied to the power output to each speaker as well. I assumed if an amp gives out 160watts that means to each channel, and as for the ohms I thought it was one setting for all speakers I couldnt see it saying anywhere you can select different ohms settings for different speakers. Which is why I asked those questions. Have I got it all wrong? If so back to the drawing room.

Anyone?

Yes the power rating is per channel but 160 watts is the maximum output so running at reasonable listening levels will not damage your speakers.

As for the speaker resistance (ohms), set the amp to the 6ohm minimum level and as mentioned by f1only the calibration tools will take care of making sure the volume is balanced across all speakers.

I noticed you were looking at the BX1's for your fronts and the RX (silver) for your centre.  You would get a more consistent sound by having all 5 surround channels from the same range (all BX, all RX etc) so you might want to consider tweaking your speaker selections.

Again as f1only suggests, if you can, get a demo.  It will either confirm your choices as sound or throw up something new you hadnt considered - I never would have got my fronts if I hadnt listened to them first.
