I have an Onkyo tx-nr905 and have decided to use my Audiolab 8000A as a power amp for the main front speakers allowing me to play music through the Audiolab only.

The question is - the Audiolab has pre/power outputs and inputs these are internally linked, can I just plug into the power inputs from the Onkyo’s pre outs without damaging the pre output stage of the Audiolab when playing movies and vice versa, when playing music will I damage the pre-outs on the Onkyo if I leave the Audiolab’s internal links in Quest

Unfortunately you do need to make a small modification inside the amp to separate the pre and power sections, the manual is particularly unhelpful here and I don't actually know how to do it but if you have a look here it might give you the necessary info, good luck.

Thanks for the info Joe, but I really want to keep the links in so I can have the best of both for music and Home Cinema.

I may just have to bite the bullet anf use the video as the input and turn the volume up.

Cheers
